Dan Ring Memorial Bike Ride (9/26/09)
The Dan Ring Memorial Scholarship Bike Ride was help September 26, 2009 starting at the SCC West Burlington campus. Prior to the bike ride, a new bicycle parking area was dedicated. Dan’s wife spoke to the crowd of nearly 100 about Dan’s life, and how happy he would have been to see so many people cycling. Registrations and donations totaled approximated $2900 to be applied toward the Dan Ring Nursing Scholarship that is awarded to a second semester nursing student who “caught fire” in the first semester. This ride was the first of the anticipated annual scholarship bike rides.
Dan Ring taught physiology classes at SCC West Burlington for 16 years and was very supportive of the Nursing Program. Dan was always seen at the nursing Vesper’s ceremonies and at SCC graduations. He was asked to speak at the West Burlington campus Vesper’s ceremony in December 2009 but passed away in November while riding his bike home from SCC.
- Dan always insisted that riders obeyed all traffic signals and was imperative that all stop signs were observed.
